Are 1-2-1 Yoga classes different from a group class?26th

Yes.

Why take a 1-2-1 class? Well there are obvious reasons – you will receive a totally unique class tailored to your needs, which is great if you feel a little intimated or anxious about joining a class environment or just want to indulge in pure ‘you’ time.  It’s a practical answer if you want to address specific injuries, goals or concerns, want to work completely at your own pace or have the kind of schedule that means fitting into class timings is almost impossible! It’s also great to add a 1-2-1 to your normal schedule to help you ge tthe most out of those asanas you know you just want

a little extra help with… Remember, private yoga classes are an investment in your personal growth and health. To get the most our of your private lesson, make sure you spend time with your instructor talking about your specific goals and needs.

But there more reasons to choose a 1-2-1 session, either as your only external yoga practice or as an adjunct to your weekly routine. Traditionally yoga was taught by one teacher directly to one student and while group classes can be fun, energizing and offer affordable yoga to us all, a private session allows for a more intimate view of YOUR practice.

Everybody comes to a yoga class for a reason, and those reasons will vary from student to student. Some reasons are specific (help with lower back pain), and others are more general (increase flexibility). Private yoga lessons offer students the ability to focus on personal interests, concerns or goals. Instead of following along with the yoga instructor in a class setting, a private lesson allows an individual to set specific goals and plans, such as personal goals for flexibility, strength or meditation. An instructor teaching in a private setting takes the information about the yoga practitioner’s goals and creates a personalized routine based on the information.

Create a Personalized Schedule

Although the experience itself and goal planning are important, making the time to practice is a vital element of yoga. If it’s not possible to get to a class, then joining a class is not the best choice. In such an instance, a private lesson can accommodate even the most hectic of schedules.1212
Private lessons work around personal plans and scheduling conflicts. Taking lessons at any time of the day, depending on work and/or social obligations, allows more flexibility in one’s yoga practice.

Overcome Health Concerns

Injuries and health concerns can make a normal yoga class impractical for some students. When health concerns are a potential issue, it is best to have a private yoga lesson. The instructor can work around the problem and avoid complications while allowing you to practice safely.

Develop a Plan for Personal Home Yoga

Practising yoga at home without any initial instruction can be difficult. It’s important to make sure your body is correctly aligned in order to get the most out of your practice and avoid potential injury.  There is a lovely sutra in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras (1.22) that can be loosely translated as “The speed with which you progress toward your goals is in direct proportion to your faith and the amount of effort you put into it”. Makes sense. If you practice often an
d with great conviction, you will achieve your goals much faster. That’s what home practice is for. So yes you can simply take a little time each week and that’s great- you will get there! But a private yoga lesson makes it possible with the help of your teacher, to create a plan that you can enjoy practising at home and that will help you reach your goals much faster.
